I have written about it before, but Judy Maxwell Home has to be my favorite store in the city…Only, “store” doesn’t do it justice - this place is more like a an urban treasure box filled with playful and artistic treats.
or as they put it:

Judy Maxwell turned out to be a diorama! (a three-dimensional miniature model enclosed in a glass box), except it’s not miniature.  We are a life-size diorama in the middle of Chicago’s Gold Coast. One that’s constantly changing, but always full of fun, magical finds.

Like this…
Yesterday on my walk home, I couldn’t help but laugh at the world’s (?) largest beachball taking up most of their storefront.  Just look at that thing!
Funny how I have gone 31 perfectly content years without a 12 foot beachball in my life and after one sighting, I suddenly can’t stop thinking about it.
If you are in the neighborhood, you really must stop by.(and for those of you who aren’t…visit their newly launched website)
Judy Maxwell Home | 1151 N. State Street | Chicago

just emailed a sweet friend in chicago and said “this store warrants a visit.” no, not the fact that she’s rad and it’s been far too long since i’ve been to the windy city.
a store.
sorry t, but i’m sure you’ll take it, and actually, luckily, kind of understand.

"I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married."
